At the beginning of April we were in Firenze to shoot our campaign. Shooting in such a beautiful environment with the coolest Emilia, a true local born and raised in Florence, was genuinely a dream come true! We were lucky enough to find ourselves in good company; Emilia and her boyfriend Brando are the proud owners of Il Guscio, a restaurant in the heart of Florence, San Frediano. Embodying the true Italian hospitality, Emilia warmly invited us for lunch at their restaurant on the spot. No sooner said than done, Labro was welcomed and immersed in the world of authentic Tuscan cuisine.
In 1987 Brando’s nonna and father decided to transform their family tripperia into a traditional trattoria. Ever since they have been serving a refined choice of typical Tuscan seasonal dishes, reflecting the Florentine taste and tradition. They combine these dishes with a carefully curated selection – with an eye for niche Tuscan productions – of wines. According to Brando and the team the antipasto della casa and the in red wine cooked veal are must-tries. Brando’s 80-year-old nonna still goes to market twice a day to get fresh, local products. She, as an autodidact and a true connoisseur, remains to play an active role in Il Guscio’s kitchen. No dish makes it to the menu without nonna’s final taste test.
When we asked Brando how he would describe Il Guscio, autenticità, famiglia and San Frediano were the first words that came to mind. This warm famiglia feeling is immediately palpable once you set foot in Il Guscio – torno presto!
